Default 1987 Mustang Tranny Swap AOD to T5

Ok so I am going to swap from the AOD to T5 in the 87. Anyone ever do a swap on a fox? I got the trans, drive shaft, bell housing, and cable pulled. Now for the pedals do I have to pull the whole pedal assembly or can I just pull the clutch pedal and install on my existing pedals? Also as far as sensors in the trans do I have to pull the harness extensions or are they the same?

Is there anything else that I am missing?

Thanks in advance

You need the whole pedal assembly.

Also you will need the harness that runs from the pass side bulkhead under the hood, it will hook up to the sensors/plugs on the transmission.

its a really easy swap. Could be done in under 3 hours(on a lift) if you have all the parts(seems like you do)

Ok I was hoping I wouldn't need the whole assembly. And the harness that was on the donor car goes through the driver side floor in the tunnel. Ill have to double check on my car cause someone is taking the roller.

Also will the clutch switch have the plugs on my existing car or is that a separate piece of harness?

I dont know how it is on the Fox body cars but on the SN's the clutch switch is wired up separately.

The plug provision is there on auto cars, however the wires aren't hot, so it shouldn't be terribly hard to get it working.

I never connected mine when I did the swap. No biggie.

It took me 3 hours on a lift with a buddy helping me.

Nothing more than a glorified clutch job.

HARDEST part is putting in the new pedal box. You absolutely need to remove the drivers seat so you can settle down under the dash and get comfortable. That step actually took me more than an hour...

Did it years ago. Fairly easy. The pedal assem. is the bitch. your also gonna need to wire that goes for the reverse lights on the trans. all those cars came pretty much ready for either trans. you will notice it handles better too without that extra 150 lbs in the middle of the car

nothing to fear about a 5 spd swap in any 87-93 5.0... easy to do, just takes some time, that's all. IMO, the worst part is yanking that elephant sized AOD from under the vehicle - what a heavy POS... don't drop it on your fingers... LOL

Keep in mind that the Clutch Cable will enter the firewall where the AOD has the speedometer cable, the speedo cable gets relocated. Take a look at a 5 spd car before you do the swap for reference.
