Default 2003 GT autotrans issue

I have a 2003 GT auto-trans. When im driving the car and i go to take my foot off the gas to hit the break or coast the car, the trans seems to bang, its enough to shake the car sometimes. Again, it does not do this all the time only sometimes and mostly when im around 30-50mph. Any ideas what it could be? I hope the trans is not on itsway out. I heard it could possibly be the torque converter or the OD gears ar starting to wear. Any help would be appreciated! thanks guys.

I would say your gears are going which isn't too bad to fix. If it's a clunking sound that you can feel than yeah probably gears...

ugh alright, but other than that the car has no shifting shifting problems. Theres also about 58k on the car you still think it can be the gears? and if so, how much would that run me if had to replace them?

i was thinking the u-joints as well but i would think that it would make the car do the same thing when i accelerate too. I know absolutley nothing on transmissions so im reading around. This does not mean my transmission is completley shot right? im starting to get paranoid evey time i drive the car

Few options. Doubt its u joints or gears as they would make noise from a start more than likely. Yoyr torque converter could be the issue unless there is a solenoid or pressure issue in the trans

mine does the same thing. it has something to do with the torque convertor locking and unlocking. i was told it is normal. i beat the snot out of my car and have not had any issues.

and i have almost 90000 miles on my car and its been driven hard for over 65000 of them.

jack the car up and check the ujoints for play. if you see a rust trail coming out of the caps instead of a greasy residue, it's time to change them regardless. i cant see you having major problems at 58k miles, but i suppose anything is possible. also check your trans and motor mounts, make sure they aren't ripped, that'll cause this issue as well. if you put the car in drive and hold the brake while you load it up on the gas, do you feel/hear any type of clunking?
