Well when me an a buddy swapped trans from auto to stick he had to swap the computers. But he had an issue with the anti theft system. Im trying to remember what he did to fix it. OO yea he swapped out the unit in the steering column. Including the key hole and all that stuff. So he ended up using the key from the car that had the stick. Basically the car didnt start until he fixed the theft system.

I think there are bypass modules for the PATS system. But I'm not sure so it's just an idea or something to look into.

PATS = Passive Anti Theft System by the way. Basically, there's a chip in your key that 'connect' to the module for the PATS system so you can start the car. I believe when you put an aftermarket alarm system in(like Viper) you need the bypass. I'd imagine it would work, but really have no idea.

An ECM is vin# specific. It has to be flashed with your vehicles information. I have seen in cases where the PATS system was not effected by just swapping with a used one, But I have also seen it cause the vehicle not to run also. I really suggest to do it the right way and purchase a Ford or other remanufactured ECM and have it flashed with your vehicles information. Granted it may cost alittle more money but this is the correct way to replace the ECM.
