Default Gas Leak, 2000 Mustang V6

When I bought the car the previous owner told me the car had been in a crash where someone rear ended the car forcing the frame to be bent out of shape, due to this problem I took it to a shop near my house where I was told that the frame was pushing against the filler neck causing my gas leak. I'm not very knowledgeable with body work and mechanics but I wanted to know how this could be fixed and if anybody could recommend a place they trust where I'm not going to get duped.

hmmm thats a little vague did it rub a hole in the filler neck? in that case the filler neck has to be replaced which is a quick thing to do then you have to make sure it doesnt get rubbed through again.

It all depends on how it is bend. It could be pushed away from the filler neck and leaking by. Can you see where it is leaking under the car?

the shop did tell me the filler neck had to be replaced and the frame should be fixed so the new filler neck won't have the same problem, and because of the snow I haven't been able to take a good look at it

ok well in that case you could probably just put in a new filler neck and just wrap it with something to protecty it

lol Dan, yeah they can do it but it can get pricey, especially since his frame is bent. A friend and me did Janice's a while back, you have to drop the tank a bit and then bolt up the new neck which practically was the easiest part to do, it wasn't too bad at all. We did it in the snow which made it kinda difficult. I would definitely look into it when you can and see how bad its rubbing against the neck, worst case scenario, just save up and pull the body back straight before paying a shop a few hundreds to drop the tank and put in a new neck.

eh I'm not as smart as you but since I helped do it once I kinda have an idea as to how, not sure I'd want to do it again, but if you do JP, make sure they watch out for a short length cable that is dry rotted and if you drop the tank too fast, it may get ripped apart
