very tedious. you need the right tools. you need to set the pinion depth and shim the rear correct (read pull gears in and out repeatedly after checking gear pattern until you get it right or it will whine like crazy). lots of details that only an experienced rear end installer can get right imo. hp wrestler is wrong. it is not for the beginner. most likely you wont get it right the first time. pay someone to do it. 300 - 500 is the average.
easier to change the whole rear out then to do a diff... yes it is heavier and all and involved but not nearly as tedious.
Also depends on how much of a mechanic u or your friend is... you could change the rear with average tools (air is better) and a little knowledge and a few friends, tools, jackstands, etc...
