Default How to install a diff 02 gt

Ok so the diff is definitely blown. Going to buy a new one ASAP. Anyone know how to install one? Is it crazy difficult? Or is this something I could do on a weekend with a friends help?

You can do it in a day... Idk how difficult it is, but you can definitely do it in a day. Can't be THAT hard!

very tedious. you need the right tools. you need to set the pinion depth and shim the rear correct (read pull gears in and out repeatedly after checking gear pattern until you get it right or it will whine like crazy). lots of details that only an experienced rear end installer can get right imo. hp wrestler is wrong. it is not for the beginner. most likely you wont get it right the first time. pay someone to do it. 300 - 500 is the average.

easier to change the whole rear out then to do a diff... yes it is heavier and all and involved but not nearly as tedious.

Also depends on how much of a mechanic u or your friend is... you could change the rear with average tools (air is better) and a little knowledge and a few friends, tools, jackstands, etc...

ive done quite a few dont even attempting it if you dont know how. there are certain measurements that are crucial to the life of the rear and how loud it will be. I showed 06 mach 1 on my blown rear some of it and you see how he feels about it!

Uggghhhh. Man this is gonna suck. Alright well I'll have to compare costs of a whole rear to getting the diff installed by a shop then. Unless if someone on here has the knowledge and extra time to help. This car is turning into quite the money pit.

The diff was knocking grinding when turning before and the car seemed to "catch" a bit when the noise was at it's worst. It was a sparatic problem and doesn't happen all the time. When I first got the car I did a launch to make sure both tires were hooking up, they were. Now it's just one.

sounds like the tabs on the clutches.. one probably snapped off. look for it in the bottom of your diff housing or perhaps it is wedged in the diff... dan agrees... lol right dan?
