Talking Racing tips for auto - Track Racing my 03 gt automatic

whats up guys, this is my first post. i have a question about racing my 03 gt automatic trans. i plan to take it to the track for the first time this month and i have been hearing rumors on turning off overdrive, whether or not to start in 1 and manually shift to 2 and then drive, or to just put it in drive and hammer it? anyone who races this generation with an automatic trans that can give me a few pointers i'd really appreciate it. thanks.

Hey welcome to the club. There's a bunch of ways us auto guys have done it...I've been told several things myself.

Overdrive and Traction off and also to 2 pedal it to get the car up to the rpms so I can launch it at a higher rpm for my advantage. I've also heard about shifting with the auto trans we have but that isn't always the best option and easier to miss and mess something up, especially if it slips into reverse or park.

I bought a TCI Ratchet Shifter for mine last year since it lets my shift between the 3 gears and drive without accidentally over shooting it and ending up in neutral or something.

Not a problem, have you done any mods to it? I'd insist first time around keep the traction on til you get use to it. Depending how you launch you make get loose off the line without it.
