Stock Mach "H" cat delete
Budget mod warning! A true hack at work!
I recently picked up a near new 03 Mach 1 in DSG for a song. Turns out that song still caused the purse strings to temporarily sieze when my wife saw the bill sooooo my mod list has to wait a few months. Thankfully I managed to secure a SLP LM2 catback before the recession hit my household!
Not being one to let $ stand in my way I crawled under there to eyeball the stock 4 cat H. My previous Mach had a beautiful catted SS MRT H. Loved it but no way right now at $515!!! A few measurments and off to the Summit catalog where for the mere sum of $67 shipped I secured a pair of 2.25 x 14" flex couplers and clamps.
A few days later I'm under the car, sawzall in hand chopping out the driver side rear kitty. The coupler slipped right on and the process was repeated on the pass side. Easy. The clamps needed ALOT of tightening to rid the leaks that sounded like tweets on decel but its done.
Hows it sound?
A heck of alot like the MRT!
My car is happy with just the front cats, no CELs! I was prepared to build a set of MILs but no need. The car woke up alot at 3200 RPMs. Rips along real good and the sound is about 75% of the MRT pipe which is a 2.5" with hi flow Magnaflow cats.
I held the rear cats up to the sun and you can barely make out a 3/8" faded spot of light in the 2.25 diameter pipes, these things are real snuffers!
I'll live with this till some cash is freed from the old family reserve but till then I'm a happy guy! I'm sure this will work on any 4 cat 2.25 H and would probably be better than a cat back to free up flow and some tone.
