Exclamation What diff to buy?

So my car has this nasty grinding/knocking noise when turning sharp at low speeds (sometimes) ...

http://www.njstangers.org/forum/rough-grinding-noise-turning-low-speeds-t5473.html"]http://www.njstangers.org/forum/rough-grinding-noise-turning-low-speeds-t5473.html"]http://www.njstangers.org/forum/rough-grinding-noise-turning-low-speeds-t5473.html

...and I'm pretty sure at this point that it's the differential.

Since the cost of the rebuild kit and a new diff is pretty much the same I figure I'll just get a new one.

Question is, what one to get? I was looking at the FRPP site and the stock LSD is pretty cheap ($215).

Also, how difficult is it to install a new diff?

Thanks

That would help me out a ton, is it in decent shape? I'm not too sure with the fitments but will it fit an 02 GT?

Both cars have the same 8.8 rear, so it will fit no problem , is the noise getting worse Matt or still the same?

Alright cool, that'd be great then. It's the same but I'm sick of hearing it when I park. I'm also worried it might cause more damage or blow completely while driving.

Make sure it's the diff before buying anything... And a Tlok rebuild kit is only like $75 as opposed to buying brand new. It's the install that is going to cost $250...

Matt one little issue here. your car has stock 28 spline axles and my factory diff that Tommy has is setup for 31 spline axles.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

I have the exact sound coming from my 03 gt. I only hear it sometimes when I pull into the driveway and/or make a sharp turn. I also thought it might be the rear diff. because some days the rear end hops a little bit. I've had this sound for about 4 years now and it is slowly getting louder and more noticable. I'm pretty sure it isn't the diff if I've had the sound for so long. It might have something to do with the clutch because I always hear it when the clutch is in, but I probably always have the clutch in at slow speeds when turning sharp or pulling into the driveway.

I do burnouts all the time and power slides, so I haven't exactly been nice to the bits and pieces of the rear end. So I thought maybe it has something to do with that.

I've just kind of been waiting for something to explode in the rear, but it just keeps on going.

Anyway, was your issue ever solved?
