Default 2005-09 Ford Mustang Hood Flutters, Shakes, and Rattles at 65+ mph

Well, it seems this may be a common issue, but I figured I will throw a post up about it. I got my stang in August. Brand-new, I was in love instantly. Anyway....on to the problem.

The hood flutters, shakes, and rattles at 65+ mph. I took it to the dealership and they adjusted the hood bumpers. But it only tightened it a little. The hood is very secure on the passenger side, it is the driver side that is weak. Anyone else have this problem and able to fix it without getting hood pins installed? or replacing the hood....

this is a fairly common problem with the s197s. best and safest fix for it is hood pins

yeah, I was just hoping the dealership would be able to fix it or something. I am thinking that is a no go though. Any hood pins recommended?

I got the UPR pins and they look pretty sweet.

Most people with the factory scoop notice the hood shake more because there is a focal point in the center of the hood. It is very common. When I put the cdc shaker on mine it stopped the shake but I did the pins anyway because I love the look of them.

I think I will end up with the UPR pins, I will see if the dealership may be able to order me the shelby ones at a discount and install them to counter the problem, but we shall see how that goes....

on a side note, Mach do you happen to have any photos of just the rear end of your car? I really like the mustang decal lettering on the back, very interested in possibly doing the same for mine...

A shakker hood scoop will also reduce the pressure under the hood. i know a few people who's hood fluttering problem was solved with this.

And i have the $100 Scott and Drake/Shelby pins. love them. raging pita of an install, nervous the whole time, and i wasn't the one drilling lol

a properly installed hood doesnt flutter. The dealer is the last place that wil lspend the time to fix it right. (and we wonder why everyones buying hondas, thanks michigan)

Anyway, there are rubber bumpers on the radiator support out on each side. These should be screwed out enough so they contact your hood when closed....they should not allow any up and down play. If you have to adjust them up so high that your hood now sits too high as compared to the fender, then you have to adjust the latch lower.

Do that and your hood will not flutter.

it's also a huge air trap.. so i'd guess its more likely to be a problem with the fake scooped hoods.
