Default 2005 Ford Mustang Coupe * Thermostat Failure * 123,000 Miles

Heard a pop about 1/2 mike from home. By the time the car was in the driveway there was coolant everywhere under the hood, lots of steam. I had to add about 1.5 gallons of coolant before I could find the leak. Coolant was pouring out of the thermostat housing. I did some research and it turns out that this is a pretty common problem with the v6 plastic thermostat housing. They crack / fail. There are a few good write-ups on this. I just need to source the parts. Car has 123,000 miles.

You should be able to get a replacement at any local auto parts store. It's an easy job, should only take a few min to swap out.

Also make sure to get the o-ring for it or at least see if one comes with the housing. Mine didn't come with it. And you might as well do the t stat while you have it apart. I also would check the temp sensor and clean it off if there is anything on it.
