Default Exhaust Overhaul for the Jolly Roger

Well folks, I scored a pretty good deal on a Pypes M-80 Mid-Muffler dual exhaust conversion system for the car ($500 even). Most places I found it between $535 and $550. Other places sold the After-Cat X-Pipe (street legal version) for $111 and GT system for $389 which is cheaper than the kit...oddly enough... until you do your homework like I did and realize that you would need to purchase the driver side exhaust hangers (which retail for $59.99 on AM) which sends the kit well over the V6 conversion. HA!

Either way, down to the techy stuff...

This weekend, "Morgan" is getting her stock headers ripped out and replaced with JBA shorty headers, I'll be keeping the catted mid-pipe, since more than enough sites and tech articles say the stock cats are actually high-flow and are pretty good.

Next, I'll be cutting off the factory Y-Pipe and splicing in the new X-Pipe and then installing the rest of the M-80 system.

I've done some searching and here are my reasons for choosing the system I did:

1) Cost -- Pypes may not be as HIGH quality as say, Borla or Roush, but for the sound, materials (409 stainless steel), and ease of install...totally worth it for my wallet.
2) Sound -- I have spent countless hours listening to different combos and systems... this one rings the best in my ear.
3) Ease of install -- No special tools or hardware needed, just a Sawz-All and common auto handtools. No exotic parts that require 16 hours of searching online. And lastly, the necessary hardware comes with the kit (hangers, brackets, clamps, etc.)

This system will replace the 3" MAC Axle-Back that she currently runs. Though, I really enjoy the sound she is putting out right now, MAC has a rusting problem (this has been on my car for a little over a year and its rusting already), therefore, it's time to split the exhaust, open it up a bit, and move on.

Sorry for the long post, but I figure I'd update you guys on everything.

You want to come do mine next? I have all these pieces sitting in my garage waiting to be put on the car.

Please post a video clip once you get it all on there because I want to know what it sounds like! Good luck.

It sounds like you have a fun project on your hands. Good luck with it and make sure to post a bunch of photos before, during and after if you can.

That was alot of reading lol. If you have a camera you should get some clips up when you're done so we can hear it!

Good luck with the install. I have Pypes LT's, Catted x hi flow pipe, m80's and Pype bombs on my car. The only gripes with install on the whole system is that the clamps come loose so i would plan on having to go back a few times after heat cycles and torque the hell out of them (or if you want just weld it all together for permanent construction) and also the tail pipes needed a little tweaking to get them straight. The materials and welds are very nice. The system sounds good too.

I used FRPP header gaskets also with the header install.

Post clips when you get it all together.

I have an M-80 set up on mine but my damn driver side exhaust is crooked! No idea how to fix it!

One of these days you should take a look at it! :3

Guess what? Mine is too... Pypes seems to think it was our fault. However, by my OWN research and 2 different shops opinions....it is obvious their hangers are TOO short. Therefore, will require cutting and welding a longer hanger. WTG Pypes! Nice sound though!
