Well folks, I scored a pretty good deal on a Pypes M-80 Mid-Muffler dual exhaust conversion system for the car ($500 even). Most places I found it between $535 and $550. Other places sold the After-Cat X-Pipe (street legal version) for $111 and GT system for $389 which is cheaper than the kit...oddly enough... until you do your homework like I did and realize that you would need to purchase the driver side exhaust hangers (which retail for $59.99 on AM) which sends the kit well over the V6 conversion. HA!
Either way, down to the techy stuff...
This weekend, "Morgan" is getting her stock headers ripped out and replaced with JBA shorty headers, I'll be keeping the catted mid-pipe, since more than enough sites and tech articles say the stock cats are actually high-flow and are pretty good.
Next, I'll be cutting off the factory Y-Pipe and splicing in the new X-Pipe and then installing the rest of the M-80 system.
I've done some searching and here are my reasons for choosing the system I did:
1) Cost -- Pypes may not be as HIGH quality as say, Borla or Roush, but for the sound, materials (409 stainless steel), and ease of install...totally worth it for my wallet.
2) Sound -- I have spent countless hours listening to different combos and systems... this one rings the best in my ear.
3) Ease of install -- No special tools or hardware needed, just a Sawz-All and common auto handtools. No exotic parts that require 16 hours of searching online. And lastly, the necessary hardware comes with the kit (hangers, brackets, clamps, etc.)
This system will replace the 3" MAC Axle-Back that she currently runs. Though, I really enjoy the sound she is putting out right now, MAC has a rusting problem (this has been on my car for a little over a year and its rusting already), therefore, it's time to split the exhaust, open it up a bit, and move on.
Sorry for the long post, but I figure I'd update you guys on everything.
