Default Fellow 05-09 Owners, Check Under Your Hoods!

There is a common issue and a TSB out for our hoods corroding underneath. It forms along the edge of the front and back of the hood. It's caused by Iron contamination in the aluminum and exhibits itself as blistering/bubbling of the paint under the hood.

Ford has a Technician Service Bulletin out on it. If your car is still under the 5 year corrosive warranty, the will fix it, however, that warranty starts from your cars BUILD date, not the day it was 1st purchased. If you are out of warranty, call Ford, in fact, if you have the issue at all CALL FORD. I called and they, even though there is a TSB, tried to DENY the issue. The more people to call, the more they can not deny it. It is a manufacturing defect and therefore they should correct it. We should not have to spend upwards of $1000.00 to fix or replace our hoods.

The number is 800-392-FORD. Here is a link to the TSB, courtesy of Mustangforums.com.

Thanks for sharing, completely agree, if it was normal rust due to age that would be a different story but this should be covered on their part. A great topic to discuss during our breakfast meeting at the Philly Auto Show in January.

I think so as well. I mean I LOVE this car to death it is so much fun to drive and everything else about it is pure love, but this one little thing that nags at my OCD under the hood. I will be there on the 28th to ask personally! lol

Sounds good, I don't think they'll take it in any negative way, probably will offer us a solution which would be great even if my hood is cut for the shaker lol

It shouldn't matter if it was cut for a shaker, if something was made incorrectly the Manufacturer should fix it.

off topic--I almost bought a shaker. Does it really add ?

Problem is, ford didn't correct the problem, so even if you buy your hood, or a new stock hood from ford there is still a chance that it will have the same issue.

Ford has screwed a lot of people out of taking care of their hoods. Thats why i am just going to replace my stock hood once it corrodes. This one is only about 18 months old, my first stock hood bubbled after less than 24 months. It was replaced after my accident in june 2010. I'm going with a custom hood thats fiberglass so no corrosion issues to worry about

Id say this bothers me but I had the stock hood off the 07 off and sold within 2 months and the gt500s dont have this issue. Best solution is to get rid of the ugly stock hood and get something else. Who needs to see the road

See, I like the Stock hood with my new scoop. I really didn't want to have to totally replace it.
