Default Frozen Ebrake TSB Issue on a S197 Mustangs, Guess what it happened again!

Almost 2 years later, I woke up this morning to go out to work, hop in my warm car, put it in drive, release the ebrake and it felt light....pull out of my inclined driveway at 3500 to 4000rpm and thought that was normal, get out and leveled and get driving down the block and i see my mphs slowing down intensively fast.....i went to go around the block to see if it would disengage, up the hill, it was going up at over 4000rpm and buring rubber because it was slipping as well....came back down fine, parked it and it was smoking and smelt like locked brakes.

2years ago around January in my b-day I spent over 3 weeks trying to get this issue fixed with All American Ford in Hackensack, the issue was that they were out of the parts to replace and i had only one car and neeed it daily so every morning it had the damn locked ebrake. Ended up oneday not being able to move it at all and had to actually get it flatbed-ed right out from my driveway, got out to all american where it took them another 2 days to get the damn part (keep in mine its just a brake cable that's fault and freezes)

Great thing was that it lasted 2 years without doing it til today and now I'm S.O.L since it's out of warranty (have to check into it) or almost out and not suppose to be happening since they technically replaced the faulty part. Wanted to drive it since i probably wont due to the snow storm we are expecting

I can bet that many of you have had this problem, its a known problem by ford and they haven't made it a recall yet but there is a tsb for it. But if anyone has this problem, they should probably get that cable changed under warranty before then.

-- Had to vent...I found driving in reverse loosens it but not this time, i was burning rubber just to get the tire spin in reverse ugh....

i wish, I'd have to flat bed it all the way down and take off a whole day from work, hoping it can be fixed same day I cant get it above 30mph without it going over 4000rpms.....one benefit was my exhaust sounded great but not good for the car lol

if thats what you have to do , thats why I have triple AAA for times like that.Might cost you some money, but not as much to have it towed all the way down there. For me the
1st 50 miles is free lol.

AAA comes in handy you can ask Kevin that lol, you were there that day, so if I were you I would think about getting it cause you never know what might happen.

yup I bought earlier this year as well....definitely helps with changing tires on mac since i can't do it without a good hydraulic lift and torque wrench lol (not something i can carry everywhere. lol

I think i got 50 or more miles but idk, maybe just call paramus ford and have my friend there fix it.

yeah definitely only during winter but never happened last winter nor did it repeat after it was replaced that january and we had colder weather after that.....so it may just be another faulty brake cable, supposedly moisture builds up in it and causes it to freeze.

haha thanks. I'm just afraid about that not holding it too. I mean any other car doesn't have a problem with the ebrake lol only these mustangs

well if nothing else, I just wanna say that you gotta start trusting your feelings more. When the e-brake doesnt disengage, dont go drive it! Same moral as the wheel fiasco.

I was gonna say it sounds to me like water gets in there somehow and freezes. So rahter than giving it to ford to F up again, it fix it myself and make sure it gets sealed and greased real good. As always, id love to help you.

oh I appreciate that man. Will it do damage like that?

Yup, I just need a replacement cable from ford for free and i'd be happy, not sure when I could get under the car to do it, sucks about this weather and the fact I don't have an indoor garage to do it otherwise i'd say we do it asap, then again i can even get it too far from my house with a flat bed now
