Default Jdm engineering auto transmission catch can

OK so I just got one. I have begun install and will finish it up this weekend. Well thought out simple kit.

IF you have an Automatic beware. When these transmissions are pushed they puke fluid.

Ford designed this tranny to take abuese but there are a few details left out.

A fill and check tube would have been great.

So back to the tranny puking out fluid.... The vent hose at the top of the back of the trans goes all the way to the front. The problem is that it does not recirculate. When the trans fluid heats up it will eventually find its way to the vent. It just pours down into the bell housing and eventually drips out the inspection plate.

I have had this happen a few times and decided to remedy the problem before I grenade my tranny.

JDM sells a kit that I just bought. The can mounts to your firewall. It hooks up to the vent hose location on the top of your tranny. When the tranny fluid heats up it expands and fluid pushes up to the can catches it and holds it until the trans cools down allowing the fluid to cool and contract and eventually returns to the trans.

This is a must have for auto guys that push there cars.

Another perk is that you have a place to fill fluid into now as well from the top of the car.

I will take some pics when I get it all together.

The kit is a little pricey but it is well thought out and comes with everything -catch can, breather, hose, clamps, screws etc. Honestly I had bought some stuff from jegs and figured i would just figure it all out but finding a place to mount it clean was really a challenge. So in the end I ended up buying the kit (160 bones) but if you could weld a box up you could make it yourself. for you v6 guys you might be good with an off the shelf generic unit from jegs being that you have a little more room in the engine compartment.

Next meet I am at I would like to look under your hood Jonathan. That will give me a better idea if I could fabricate a less costly kit for you.

Once I get the kit installed (hope this weekend / I have it mounted already but need to get the car in the air to install the vent hose and I am quite sore still from riding this weekend) I will snap some detailed pics. I will have it in by the time the RT23 Show happens for sure so you guys can check it out there.

Lol yeah, their trans is weird..it doesnt have a fill tube/dip stick like we do.

The 4R70W is alright but a J-Mod would make it even better, which I am considering doing.

Yes it is for the sr55s. The 4r70w has its own share of much bigger problems too...
