Default OEM GT hood scoop placement

Hi, I purchased a OEM GT "style" hood scoop. The installation instructions suggest mounting the scoop so that the rear end of the scoop is 8" to 8 1/2" from the rear edge of the hood. For some reason when I place it there, I'm just not 100% sure that's the precise spot it should be.

Can someone with an S197 GT with a factory mounted OEM GT hood scoop be willing to do the following favor for me? Can someone measure from the back of the hood to the back of the hood scoop and also from the front of the hood to the front of the hood scoop. I'd like the front measurement as well since mine is OEM "style" and not a genuine Ford OEM scoop there might be some minor size difference.

I would just feel 100% more confident knowing the factory placement specs before mounting mine since I like the look and placement of the factory scoop.

I'd like to give a very appreciative "thank you" in advance, to whoever would be willing to measure and give me these specs. It would be very very appreciated.

Thanks,
HMT

PS: Does anyone else get extremely nervous with bouts of extreme perspiration, second guessing and paranoia whenever making any modification to their Mustang?

EDIT: My car is a 2007 GT/CS if that's pertinent at all.

use the windshield wiper nozzles as a reference as well.

And i used to be, i was so nervous to screw anything up on my car i paid ford to swap my mufflers once! Now that i have gotten more accustomed to working on my car, heck i'll kick, curse and unfortunately bend or break something on occasion. But i always fix her up and hey, even mod the thing i broke. Got a new radiator cover coming soon that's airbrushed

I had to drill into the body for my lightbar, but if i screwed it up, no one saw cause it was covered by the side panel lol.

Can't you install it with 3M tape for a while, see if you feel its the right spot, then remove it and drill?

i actually have to agree with james there i would cut the studs off and double side tape the scoop on because if you ever get tired of it you can yank it

Hey guys, sorry I should of clarified. I already decided to just 3M tape it for now. I can always go back later and bolt it if I decide to. I just know if I drill holes, I'll change my mind in 2 weeks or screw up my hood somehow. I'm going to remove the blackfire wet diamond on my car with dawn dish soap. Then clean vigorously with rubbing alcohol. I am going to remove the double-sided tape that came on the bottom of the scoop, clean the surface, then apply 3M automotive tape since I'm not sure of the quality of tape that came on it. I wanted to find some 3M or Dupont adhesion promoter but none of the hardware or auto parts stores that I called carry it. I read on the 3M site that the adhesion promoter is "isopropyl alcohol based" and doesn't mention any other active ingredients, so I'm pretty sure it's just glorified rubbing alcohol anyways.

That's how nervous I get with mods, I'm nervous just TAPING something to my hood.

One other question I have. I know that you should apply 3M tape in temperatures above 60 degrees. I can heat my garage to that temp with a space heater but does anyone know how long the car needs to sit in that temp before the body panels heat up? I was thinking of heating the hood area with a hair dryer just to be sure it wasn't too cold before applying.

The main thing I'm worrying about is the precise front to back placement, so if anyone can provide me with those specs, a few drinks will be on me at the first meet I go to. Unfortunately, I obsess over minor details like this.

That literally made me gasp. That's just scary. Even just changing fluids, I put my car up on my ramps and checked my tranny and rear diff fluid levels 3 times in a span of one week after changing it to make sure I wasn't losing fluid. I just kept picturing my rear differential seizing up on me.

Ah wow okay, believe me I was just like you when I first got mine, but there's so many trusting people in this club that really give you good information or are even willing to cut your hood and put a shaker on.

I agree 3m is the best way and I personally am not sure if I would do it now or until spring. I haven't had much luck with 3m holding stuff really strong but I have noticed if I do it in the summer it tends to hold so much better. Its up to you. Either way use a blow dryer and heat up the glue and the hood and place it once you know where you want it but don't expect to move it after. It won't be easy to adjust.

i cant help you with front to back placement sadly but i can tell you your gonna want the garage to be warm for a little while id say at least an hour and i would recommend heat the hood pretty good before applying it. in all the pictures i have found it looks to be about 2 inches forward from the washer squirters though if that helps at all

Thanks for all the advice guys. I agree, maybe I should just wait until it gets warmer out. Yeah I guess I'm just a nervous wreck from a combination of being new to modding cars, only having had this car for 3 months, and just being an indecisive person in general.
