Default S197 Rear Emblem Blackout (Write Up w/ Pics!)

Hey guys!

After doing my air vents, I had a bit of flat black paint left over so I decided to do my rear emblem as I'm working on blacking out my entire car.
I figured I'd just get it over with now rather than later, haha.

Anyway! What you need to do is pretty simple. This is what I did!

Step 1
Go to your local auto store (I went to Advanced Auto Parts here in Elizabeth) and pick up a can of whatever color you want. I picked Dupli-Color's Vinyl and Fabric Spray in Flat Black. Nothing else unless you need wipers or something lol.

Step 2
I got home and taped off the parts where you don't want to paint. Make sure you do this correctly!! Especially if your car is a different color!! I can't stress this enough!

Step 3
Do a couple of test sprays on a newspaper or something to get the nozzle clear and ready!
Then spray in one direction but not directly on it.
What I mean is start spraying from the tape and swish across the emblem.
Avoid spraying directly on the emblem as that can cause dripping or inconsistency in the color!!

Just take your time!
I only did one coat because I had to go film something in Linden but if you have the time, do like, 4 coats taking time to let the paint sit there and dry!

If all goes well, it should look like this!

If anyone does this or has done it before, post up some pics!

Good luck!

I changed mine when it was done. My paint guy did it black w/ clear to match the car. Then used a brush and some caliper paint to do the letters red.
