As an answer to your thread title: Id be happy to school you WITH my s197 if it wasnt blown up...lmfao! But here goes...
imo theyre all the same. The biggest thing is the interior options. Smokey07 has this leather stitched dashboard and door panels that the most of us dont have. Looks so much better quality than plastic BUT....he cannot get the dash pods that we can for his gauges.
And the mp3 jack is fn garbage anyway. The um, 08 or 09's had optional HIDS and a better optional radio if thats an interest to you. Obviously aftermarket HIDS are great, but technically the ford housings are different.
Things like the bullitt came out in, was it 08? But theyre basically useless unless u want them for collector value.
ME, I got a 07 gt brand new with as few options as possible because id change it all anyway. Only thing to look for is LSD if thats even an option and optional 3.55 gears instead of the standard 3.27. But again, shouldnt be a dealbreaker cuz ur gonna change all that anyway.
haha luck 07s!!! Too bad they didn't offer those options sooner on my yellow stang....did you know there was an option for a powered passenger seat??? Supposedly its a simple add that I may do eventually...

The bullitt package came out in 2008 and 2009 in either highland green or black. no fender badges, no scoops or spoilers, very sleek. 200 MPH speedo with bullet sights, special badging but very subtle, 18 inch rims dark with polished lip, GT500 steering wheel and seats, 3.73 gears, CAI, special 3.5 inch bullitt mufflers, no pony or foglights, special gril with chrome trim around it, adjustable ECU that can sense the octane rating of the fuel and compensate to utilize the higher octane. 93 for the best but it will run fine on 87. only comes in 5 speed manual with its special shifter. Also comes with the FRPP handling pack.
And its only like $2-3k extra. For all of that i think its a very good value.
I have used my MP3 input jack for 2.5 years no issues The shakker 500 system hasn't changed in all 5 years, the shakker 1000 is a waste of $1295 for 2 subs that kill off part of your trunk.
With the standard 3.31's you can cruise at pretty high speeds on the highway and keep the revs under 2k which is good to have when you add louder exhaust which you will cause everyone does
Thanks for the info guys...especially the correction on the S197! I did actually know that [facepalm].
I could care less about appearance packages--as long as I can find a red, silver or black one without the extra lights in the grill (Pony package?) or the louvers over the side windows (dealer installed option?) I'll be happy.
So really the only thing I need to be looking out for is which gears an 06-07 has? I found a post on ModdedMustangs that sort of addresses what I'd be concerned about with the gearing, but they don't include the 3.31 in the write up. [This info is based on one member's calcs using a non-stock tire size that is smaller in diameter and would change the speed by .5MPH at 60.]
In 2nd gear at 6000RPM the 3.55 will be doing 67MPH, while the 4.10 will be at 58MPH. I can assume the top speed of the 3.31 will be higher but I'm having a hard time accepting that this car can do 67-70 in second gear!
What are the real world differences between the 3.31 and the 3.55? Gas mileage variations? 0-60? Any idea what most of the 06-07 cars are equipped with--which is more rare, the 3.55 or the 3.31?
it will do 67 mph in 2nd but not much else and you don't want to rip it that hard anyway. But yea, its pretty cool. If you take out the wind resistance and friction the S197 could theoretically go over 200 MPH with its gearing.
3.31 vs 3.55 you will see MAYBE a 1 mpg difference. but anything you lose on the highway you will gain around town since you can go to a high gear around town and therefore keep the revs down.
as for changing the speed with the gears, ford takes care of the from the factory. those of us who do it aftermarket just recalibrate the car with our tuners. there is an option when uploading the custom tune to recalibrate the gear ratio and we can simply select the new gear ratio we have
