each tuner can read codes and such from any car. i used my SCT Xcal 3 to pull codes from a 2000 F-450. but it can only TUNE one car.

most of the time the tuner is only good for one vin#, if you can find a way to bypass this then there would be no problem using it on more than one car, also i think some tuners can be bought to be used on more than one car,but i am not 100% on that

they are married to the car unless you can the more expensive one which can do several cars, but they cost quite alof of money then the regular one.I know diablo makes one not sure about SCT

Cause they are specific to your computer and not all cars have the same one. That's why you have to supply your 4 digit computer code when buying one.

tuners defeinitley cannot be shared. it takes the vin off the computer and verifies that it sees that vin when you start it up. so you can never tune someone elses car unless you get an unlocked tuner from an authorized dealer.

I guess you're in the market for a tune? Dont just buy one from SCT. Get some mods first like intake and exhaust....THEN order a tuner with custom tunes for your application from one of our affiliates. That way it will actually do something.

ok i admit it i misunderstood what i was told
the guy george i work with has his own mach1 his friend has the same they are identical cars from the dealer meaning same year engine size and transmition the part that they were able to save is the tuning program they bought the pro racing package he said he can create his own tunes but doesnt advise anyone without experience to try to do it on there own as it will most likely end with you having a blown motor if you mess with the timing/airfuel etc etc but the program is what you can share and its the pro racing program if anyone is still interested
