    Default 87-93 Octane tune difference

Ive been running my 93 octane tune since I've gotten the tuner but lately i feel like gas is getting way too expensive. my question is how much is the difference between the two tunes if there even is any? i haven't gotten the 87 tune in from stage3 yet so i can't actually try it for myself.

its all in the throttle response to which you are actually going to feel. With the 93 tune the tuner has a wider array of options and is able to load torque and Race tune where the 87 limits their options to basically the performance tune. To me personally the difference between 87 and 93 was night and day.

If your wallet is taking a hit think about this, 93 octane is higher then 87, so it takes longer to breakdown which equates to better MPG when compared to 87. It won't offset the price difference but it'll chip away a small portion of it to where you don't feel bad anymore.

The best thing to do would be to run out the 93 gas, change your tune and give the 87 a chance. I've driven a few different vehicles with the 93 tune and the 87 tune, and the difference for me has been negligible and not worth the extra $0.26 per gallon.

The non VCT / VVT engines are less picky about octane, and the compression ratio is much lower. '11 and up you should run only '93 - esp now that NJ approved up to 15% Ethanol in Unleaded fuels.

'10 and below models, it's a tough call. The real issue is how much MORE spark advance is dialed in on your tune. More advance requires more octane to work properly or you're risking detonation / knock - very bad.

I would recommend using a 91 or 87 tune. The older modular engines don't have the same Adaptive Spark Advance as the Coyote or 3.7L. In other words, if the effective octane is X, the computer will not adjust the spark nearly as fast, as much, and as quickly. I wouldn't chance it.

I would also pick up some Torco - concentrated racing fuel - from Amazon or directly from them. If you start knocking, the Torco will boost the octane considerably and possibly save your engine.
