Question Getting old wax off splash guard/side skirts

So, I just too the car to get washed and the detailing guy pretty much told me you can't get wax off of plastic. It turns white on the black trim, and it's all around the bottom of the car.

Is there anyway for me to get this off the trim??

I ran into this a while back and the solution is a strange one. I found that you remove the wax by applying more wax!

You take your applicator, dab a small amount of wax onto it, and rub it onto the area you got wax on. Now rub it thoroughly until its completely gone, much more then you'd normally rub wax onto the car.

I got it on my convertible plastic trim several times and this trick worked like a charm, hope it works for you Niki

A couple of ideas from the All Ford Mustangs Forum:

Quote:
As crazy as it sounds ..... A pink eraser will take that wax residue right off platic trim.
Quote:
Go to the $ store and get a few pink erasers. Keep one int he glove box. No spraying, rags, or messy stuff needed. Just erase it, and blow it off. Simple, clean, and easy. Works perfect.
Quote:
Meguiars make a product called trim detailer which will remove wax from the plastic. kind of a pain in the arse cuz it will remove wax from the paint too, so use a Qtip or something.
Quote:
I get wax off plastic trim by dipping a Q-tip in a little bit of WD-40 -- takes it right off. I would also recommend following this up by coating the trim with an application of Mother's "Back-to-Black" -- keeps your trim looking like new!
Quote:
Being that I manage a detail center I can throw in my two cents... You can either use an all purpose cleaner and a vinyl bristled brush to remove the residue from porous black plastic
Quote:
I have read in another thread a month ago that you can use peanut butter and a tooth brush to get the wax off of your trim. Sounds crazy to me and I have not had the chance to try it but it is definately not going to hurt it in any way.
I haven't tried any of these myself. Just throwing out ideas I found elsewhere...

Thanks guys! I have TW Ice for cleaning trim, so I will give that a try- if not, more wax it is!

I am taking a break from waxing her - using Jax Wax for the first time and it's going really quickly - feels like I'm not putting much effort in. I dunno if that's a good thing or not.

Best solution hands down. Magic eraser. Just did it to my trim last week.

Just FYI, the TW did the trick - you have to really soak the applicator and use quite a bit of elbow grease, but it does clean thr trim really nicely. Got the wax off all the way around, ad around the windows as well.

Now that the car is all clean of course, and I'm really hungry from working on her, I can't go get lunch.

I think I'm going to go looking for mud puddles to drive thru before the show...
