Default A Little Showtime Etiquette Please!

I spend a lot of time getting my car
show ready before I go to any event.
The key word here is “before”.
I, and without a big list, prepare
my car from top to bottom and
then head on out.
When I get to the show, I have
some wet cloths to wipe down
all the road dust, bugs, etc. that
I’ve accumulated along the way.
Maybe a small amount of detailer,
that I spray on a rag, to take off
some stubborn spots. Then I pull
out my chair and enjoy the event.
A couple minutes and I’m good to go.
Now here comes Johnny pulling
up next to me and pulls out
the wax and polish aisle from
Pep Boys and starts going to
town on his ride. Spraying this
on that, and that on this. Overspray
floating everywhere and landing
on my car. Big puddles of tire shine
next to his wheels. Detailer smearing
in the sun. All his favorite
smelling detailing stuff
is now mixed in with the fresh air
with a hint of hotdogs I was enjoying.
This goes on for 30, 45, 60 minutes
and I’m thinking, what did he do
before he got here….nothing?
After an hour, and he’s at it again.
That’s if I didn’t go over to him and
share my thoughts on how I don’t
appreciate his detailing crap on my car.
But, you know, I shouldn’t have to do
that. Nobody should have to do that.
Let’s get our vehicles show ready,
before you head out. After a little
touch-up, you’ll have more time to
enjoy your day. I mean, man, we
have like 50 coats of wax on our cars
now. We need more?

Unfortunately not everyone has the luxury of getting things done before the show which is the reason why I personally have to do it at the show as for the puddle of tire shine etc etc that is ppl that have no clue what there doing

I guess some people have a long way to drive allowing their precious rides to get dirty and want a little touch up to make sure they're looking best at the show...

I always thought that thoroughly cleaning/detailing your car AT a show was a bit much, but then again I'm not an extreme concours detailer...
That being said I do detail as a gig/hobby and get paid for it...

Honestly if some dude pulled up next to me at a car show and started quick detailing his car I'd probably ask him to borrow some lol...

However if he proceeded to do a full degrease/bug tar removal, and decon process during the show I'd definitely give him some weird looks...

JMO.

well its still good to put it out there that this kind of behavior offends people. Most of them probably dont even know.

Im with the rest of the guys in "you're lucky I even get there on time" let alone having not done any of the detailing i shoulda done yesterday. But u know what? Wax doesnt make my car faster and what im showing isnt on the outside anyway.

Wet cloths?

Spray small amount on rag...

No Cali duster to get the dust?

No offense but that is horrible technique. I'll bet your car has swirls and micro scratchs.

You're paint would be better off if you left it the way it was when you got there.

Do your beautiful stang a favor and take sometime and watch these videos.

Thanks for the advice, but it's not only what you use, it's how you use it. A technique that got me over 50 awards, and an invitation to present one of my cars to a Concours d' Elegance sure works for me. Not properly using a duster or anything you spray and rub onto your vehicle, will end with poor results. Prime example again, something as simple as tire shine, it can make or break ya if not used correctly. Besides, one simple wipedown isn't going to ruin anything if done properly and you have great protection to begin with.

It's notta Mustang, but it paid for the one I got now. Check out....My Duster Site

Wow. I'm impressed!

But my point here isn't what product is used. Most products work well enough if you use correct technique. AJ states this in the videos. Did you watch them?

Would love to have you show me how you do it. Can't argue with your results.

I think we agree here. I just say it in 50 words or more..LOL! AJ has some great stuff in his videos and I must commend him for taking the time to make them. Great asset to the site.

I always say, treat your car like a beautiful woman. Rub her the right way and you'll get a good ride
