The possibilities for building a 5.0 are endless...

Cruise some websites like Summit or Jegs or even CJ Pony parts... they will all have readily different options available for your car...

You can get a block and dress it with some Trickflow heads/intake which is also a very popular option...

Or your could buy a block and get some GT-40 heads and a nice cam...

However if you don't want to "build" and match your own components, then I'd really look at some of the offerings I mentioned above... You pretty much don't have to get dirt under your fingernails to get one in your car, I'm sure you could swap a crate motor in your stanger in one weekend or so...

If you said that your car is smoking oil under heavy load its MOST likely your oil control rings and/or a combo of valve guides/seals/seats...

What kind of oil are of oil are you using btw? the 5.0 likes heavy oil, so if you're using stuff like 5w-30 or even 10w-30 it may aid in your oil burning problem...

I didnt notice that u have the old 5.0 block. Damn man keep ur block and have it rebuilt. There are alot of 5.0 stock lower ends running 11s. U just have the compression bumped up to handle pump gas. Then invest in some heads and a nice cam and intake. U can even get a 347 stroker kit for ur block and ull be very happy with the combo. If u can afford heads and all that then just have the engine rebuilt and then just keep the stock heads an cam and get it latta on. With the 347 and bumped compression ull already have more power. Make sure u ask around for a good shop u dont need to find a major shop for ur setup. Find some ppl that have fox bodys and ask them where to go. U shouldnt spend much on everything.

I'd switch to using 10 or 15w-40 oil and see if your oil burning problem gets better..

But yea, you simply cant go wrong with a 347 or a 331 even... Gotta love all motor...

im gunna change to a thicker oil and try to get another year or 2 out of it...I only drive 8000 miles a year. so I think I can drag it out a little...but as soon as this sucker goes I will go with the rebuild.
