I purchased a new PATS key on eBay a month ago. First, it took them almost 2 weeks to ship it to me. On Monday, I took it to my brother, who's a locksmith, to get it cut. Before cutting it, he put it in a machine the reads & verifies the chip in the key. The machine told him the key didn't have a chip so basically it's useless. My brother told me he's seen quite a few of these useless blanks being sold on eBay lately. I've been trying to contact the seller but they aren't getting back to me. Buyer beware. Avoid keygirl200901 on eBay...

I ordered the one with the built-in fob. It was $34. My brother said the one that was sent to me is a blank that's intended to replace a damaged key that still has a functioning chip. They can take the chip out of the damaged key and put it into the new blank.

He also told me that a lot of the eBay keys aren't built to the proper spec. The part they cut is often slightly thicker so after the key is cut, it needs to be filed down so it will fit properly. He said he's had this problem twice in the last month or two. This seemed to be the case with the one I got. I tried putting it in the ignition prior to getting it cut and it was really snug. My brother said it might be because it wasn't cut but it was really snug...

Good luck with yours...

I finally got things resolved with my key. After leaving scathing feedback, KeyGirl contacted me saying they wanted to make things right with me. They said my e-mails to them were getting put into their spam folder for some reason. After verifying the key I needed (I had to do the research), they said they had the proper 80-bit key and they would send it out with a prepaid return label for the defective key. They also offered to refund my money if I changed my rating to a positive.

I got the new key today, took it to the locksmith and got it checked before it was cut. They told me it had the chip I needed so I had it cut and they did the programing for me. It works perfectly. I'm happy now...

LOL... Tell me about it...

Worst case scenario, I get a $180 key for $34 and a bunch of time.

Best case scenario, I get a $180 key for a bunch of time.

Either way, it was worth the aggravation and savings
