Default Question about shaker hoods

As I looked through the photos of one of the recent shows, I saw that a few members on here have shaker hoods for their Mustangs. I've thought about doing the same thing myself, but noticed that the car still uses it's normal intake. This has me wondering, do the shaker hoods have any performance value, or are they more for appearance?

appearance. they add a few hp after like 70mph.. look pretty bad ass though imo. i have installed and cut a few hoods for forum members and even my own at one point but i went a different direction... fyi same with ram air hoods. they help get cold air in but dont really ram air into the intake.

its all for looks. I would have gotten one but 700 bucks for eye candy and hacking the hood is a bit much for me. The Saleen Supershakker even only adds about a .5 lb of boost at WOT so even those gains are minimal

Cooler motor definitely....but mostly appearance. Most of us used our stock hoods and didn't spend extra on an actual shaker hood. It may be an option for me in the future since mine is really shedding its paint on the underside.

Thanks everybody for the info. They do look badass, but I couldn't spend the money on one either - just for appearance.

I remember reading that some of the recent model Mustang Mach 1's had the shaker hoods. Were those shaker hoods also for looks, or did they not have an intake over by the front of the car?

How does it cool the motor, Jon?
