Default Sea Foam?

I haven't heard much about sea foam other than it helps you clean the carbon off your engine.

What are your thoughts on it, pros, cons, experiences???

There are guys that swear by it. I have never personally used it, but I think it's been the same formula for like 30 years so that's got to say something for it. JMO though

That's what I thought that it was only for boats but I have seen in a bunch of forums and youtube that people use it on their cars

I love it but yeah if you use it on an older car with potentially messed up gaskets you could have issues.

What can happen is this:

The gaskets can deteriorate over time and have slight leaks with small holes that are barely noticeable. Those holes get filled in with gunk/carbon build up. When you Seafoam it, the Seafoam will clean put all the gunk and carbon build up. So if there was any plugging up small holes in gaskets it will get rid of that too... And obviously that means the gaskets won't have any backup at that point, and will probably fail. So I recommend using it but not on a car any older than 10 years or so and no more miles than 125-150k.

How I use Seafoam:
1/3 bottle in crank case
1/3 bottle in vacuum line
a half bottle in gas tank (gas tank being about half full)

I let it idle for 10-15 mins (or until most of the white smoke is gone)
Rev it a little (1500-2k rpm)
Turn off, let sit for a couple minutes. Then go for a "spirited" drive down some back roads to blow out any remaining gunk.

Then I do an oil change after having driven about 50-70 miles.

That seems to give me the best results.

I usually do it every 15k miles or so before an oil change.

Just my .02

I know a lot of people that have used it, and from what I've heard, it can dislodge large chunks of carbon buildup, which are then dropped into the combustion chambers. In most instances, they'll burn up and go out the exhaust, but I've heard of it fouling O2 sensors and catalytic converters.

Just something else to think about...

That's why it's good to do it right before a good tune up. And again it really is important to know the age of your vehicle.
