To sell or not to sell thats the question

ok so five minutes ago my dad asked me if i would put the mustang up on craigslist for $5000 and if i did when it sold he would give me three grand of it or the other option is for me to buy it off him for a grand. now i would honestly hate to see the car go i really love it. but is it worth sinking every sent i own into it...... which would involve motor tweaking redoing the interior and i now in its current shape would have to take it to a body shop to have them sand the whole car down due to rust and repaint it. is the car worth keeping or is it time to give it up?
