i am a tire specialist, yes a specialist and we do not sell a tire that is more than 3 years old at our store. you will not find a tire older than 07 in our warehouse and we have over 100,000 tires. you can tell when a tire is more than 6 years old even if it hasnt been driven on, the rubber is just not the same most of them are dry rotted by then. we also try to sell our customers new tires if they are more than 4 years old and educate them the best we can. if you guys have any questions about tires and selection of tires for your cars/trucks let me know i can help you out.

That is crazy!! Thank you. I have to go check all my tires and know how to do so now....I insist we make this a sticky with a headline of something like that: "Please Read This Before You Buy Tires...." So people can check for the tire years when buying them.

It's probably worth dragging this back up to mention that Tire Rack has started noting the production year for some of its closeouts. The ones I noticed were identified as being 2007.

have 2 excellent plastic bag wrapped tires from my sons old cadillac cattera. they are a very rare size. My son got married recently and left his tires and a ton of crap behind. Do these weird size tires have any value ? Should I put them in the plastic bag with his football and lacrosse stuff?

Hi, I live right in sparta and have had a very bad experience with tires. Picture this.I have a GMC pick up with 50k on it. My son runs over a rake and I need a new tire.I get a new tire just prior to the first heavy snow.On my way home from work in heavy snow I kick it in 4wheel. 20 miles later my front pumpkin is whaling like an airplane. 12 days later company rep scratches his head but an older mechanic points out that the new tire blew it! All tires must be the same circumference or you will blow the drive train!

Perhaps that company rep should consider polishing his resume up.

And the equal circumference (equal revs per mile, actually, as there can be slight differences) thinking also applies to getting a rear tire flat on a car with a limited slip diff. Ideally, and assuming the same wheel/tire fitment all around, you put a good front tire in place of the flat rear and the spare goes on the front.
