Default Next NJ Ford F-Series to go on diet, make extensive use of aluminum

The new Ford F-Series in NJ is expected to be even lighter than it's previous heavy duty Ford F-Series trucks in NJ. Many people think that the Ford F-Series should be built tough and not slimmed in terms of weight and design construction for the NJ Ford F-Series.

Ford may turn to aluminum body panels on the company's F-Series pickup trucks in an effort to reduce weight. According to Ward's Auto, the next-generation F-Series is set to debut in 2014 and will likely feature aluminum fenders and door skins. The news comes courtesy of two unnamed sources close to the vehicle's development. Right now, the next-gen F-Series is rolling through Ford halls under the name P552, and while the automaker is reticent to go on the record about aluminizing its best-selling model, executives have made it clear that weight-savings is a major priority.

Derrick Kuzak, Ford's Group Vice President of Global Product Development, has previously said the company intends to cut up to 700 pounds per model by 2019. Ditching stamped steel body panels for aluminum would be a good start. Ford has already dabbled in aluminum hoods on both the F-Series and Explorer, and the material is expected to find greater use across automakers in the near future as companies brace for stiffer Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards.Next Ford F-Series to go on diet, make extensive use of aluminum originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 03 Jan 2012 18:30:00 EST. I'm not sure I like this.....I'm a big fan of the heavy Fords with built tough body not all flimsy and plastic like. As for weight reduction it makes sense but I'm still not a fan of it I'll stick to my 04 F150 until I can afford a F350 haha.

Dislike. I liked the f series because it was one of the most solid vehicles on the road, these trucks get banged up. They need to be rented and keep going

but aluminum wont rust. And realistically, its not really flimsy just alotlighter. As long as the frame and main structure is he same, losing some weight in the sheet metal ain't a bad plan. Keep the tree huggers happy with better mileage with out downsizing the motor

Ford's been on a roll (no pun intended) since surviving the big downturn over the last few years so let's hope they're going to engineer that aluminum into something solid looking AND feeling. Wonder what that means for the Raptor?
