Default For Greg! Save the Date! July 10, 2010 *Details Inside*

1st Annual Greg Karakos Memorial Hat Tournament

I was recently contacted by a friend of Greg, a fellow member who passed away at an extremely young age. We were suppose to have cruise in his honor but we still haven't worked out the details, hopefully we can soon. We have been invited to this event on his behalf to support him and their cause:

Date: Saturday, July 10, 2010
Time: 10:00am - 6:00pm
Location: Hampton Field (Behind the Municipal Building)
Street: 1 Rumsey Way Newton NJ 07860

I am not sure if we have anything else planned for this date but this has become 1st Priority for me. For anyone else who is going to attend, post up so we can get a list going, some spots and possibly a cruise to the place.

As the majority of you know, Greg enjoyed going to play pick-up after school at the Pit outside of KRHS grounds when he had time outside of mock trial. Greg was always good with a disc in his hand and determination in his heart. To honor this pass time of his, I would like for us all to get together with a hat tournament/fundraiser in honor of Greg in July 2010.

I am still working on the fine details as in how much to participate. If you are interested in attending (participant or just coming to watch/donate) please join this group and post on the wall if you are willing to play or watch.

Also, thanks to the Karakos family, they have provided us with a foundation which they would like the money to be given to. We will be donating the money we collect to the Embrace Kids Foundation who helped Greg and the rest of the Karakos family emotionally and financially over the six years of Greg's illness.

If you wish to look further into this Foundation, I have posted a link to their website below which Mrs Karakos had given to me.

Thank You

Looks like I'm open for that date. What is a Hat Tournament?

Wink

I received this as I'm sure a lot of you did that are on Facebook from Greg's friend Chris. For those of you who don't know, this gives a little more info on the Hat Tournament: Oh yeah, I just said my skill level prob wasn't very good, but that I was gonna give it a whirl anyway! LOL!

Subject: Hat tournament? WTF M8?! (Response required in order to play)
Hey All,
Only 26 days til the tournament and there's a few matters of business to take care of. This going to be long but it's kind of important.

1. It has come to my attention that some of you don't know what a hat tournament actually is. It's very simple really, to make teams I put all of your names in a hat and make teams by pulling them out of said hat. If you were under the impression that you're supposed to wear some sort of hat that would normally make people look at you and wonder which institution you escaped from, you are more than welcome to do so, this is an ultimate tournament after all.

2. Finding the fields for those of you from outside of Sussex County will probably be difficult. My bit of advice: Use MapQuest. Google Maps takes you somewhere about half an hour away. I'm not sure what a GPS will do, so make sure you check whatever your GPS tells you against MapQuest's directions. For those that don't know the address of the fields is:
1 Rumsey Way
Newton, NJ 07860

3. Just a reminder the tournament fee is $10. We will be providing water and food (we'll have at the very least bagels, we're working on getting some burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers for a BBQ after). Spectators are more than welcome, they don't have to pay the $10 but any donations will be greatly appreciated. The Embrace Kids Foundation is a great organization and we'd like to give them as much as possible.

4. The most important step. I need to know who exactly is playing and you skill level. You will be basing your skill on a scale 1-10 the scale goes as follows:
1. Never played before. Maybe threw around with some friends once. If you own a disc it probably says "Frisbee" somewhere on it.
2.
3. Play pick-up often. May have a decent backhand and starting to learn a flick
4.
5. Some College experience. Comfortable with both throws. Know basic plays fairly well.
6.
7.College Handler, maybe a club cutter.
8.
9.
10. Ultimate God
to put this in perspective I would rate myself at a 6. This scale is kind of loose though. For example, some one may not play at the college level but plays summer league and dominates. They would be rated higher than a 3. Message Me if you are playing and your skill level

4. Last but not least. Invite your friends!!! The more people there are the more fun and competitive this tournament will be (and the more money we can donate to the Embrace Kids Foundation). If you have a friend who doesn't have facebook/ never goes on facebook shoot them a text or call them and invite them. If they have questions and/or want to play have them email me at gstritte@ramapo.edu.

I hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully I'll see you all soon.
Cheers!
Chris
