I received this as I'm sure a lot of you did that are on Facebook from Greg's friend Chris. For those of you who don't know, this gives a little more info on the Hat Tournament: Oh yeah, I just said my skill level prob wasn't very good, but that I was gonna give it a whirl anyway! LOL!
Subject: Hat tournament? WTF M8?! (Response required in order to play)
Hey All,
Only 26 days til the tournament and there's a few matters of business to take care of. This going to be long but it's kind of important.
1. It has come to my attention that some of you don't know what a hat tournament actually is. It's very simple really, to make teams I put all of your names in a hat and make teams by pulling them out of said hat. If you were under the impression that you're supposed to wear some sort of hat that would normally make people look at you and wonder which institution you escaped from, you are more than welcome to do so, this is an ultimate tournament after all.
2. Finding the fields for those of you from outside of Sussex County will probably be difficult. My bit of advice: Use MapQuest. Google Maps takes you somewhere about half an hour away. I'm not sure what a GPS will do, so make sure you check whatever your GPS tells you against MapQuest's directions. For those that don't know the address of the fields is:
1 Rumsey Way
Newton, NJ 07860
3. Just a reminder the tournament fee is $10. We will be providing water and food (we'll have at the very least bagels, we're working on getting some burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers for a BBQ after). Spectators are more than welcome, they don't have to pay the $10 but any donations will be greatly appreciated. The Embrace Kids Foundation is a great organization and we'd like to give them as much as possible.
4. The most important step. I need to know who exactly is playing and you skill level. You will be basing your skill on a scale 1-10 the scale goes as follows:
1. Never played before. Maybe threw around with some friends once. If you own a disc it probably says "Frisbee" somewhere on it.
2.
3. Play pick-up often. May have a decent backhand and starting to learn a flick
4.
5. Some College experience. Comfortable with both throws. Know basic plays fairly well.
6.
7.College Handler, maybe a club cutter.
8.
9.
10. Ultimate God
to put this in perspective I would rate myself at a 6. This scale is kind of loose though. For example, some one may not play at the college level but plays summer league and dominates. They would be rated higher than a 3. Message Me if you are playing and your skill level
4. Last but not least. Invite your friends!!! The more people there are the more fun and competitive this tournament will be (and the more money we can donate to the Embrace Kids Foundation). If you have a friend who doesn't have facebook/ never goes on facebook shoot them a text or call them and invite them. If they have questions and/or want to play have them email me at
gstritte@ramapo.edu.
I hope everyone is doing well. Hopefully I'll see you all soon.
Cheers!
Chris
