Default advice needed: axle-back exhaust

hey everyone, i've listened to countless clips and read reviews and i'm back at square one on what i want (which right now is... i have no clue!).

my first choice is the Roush - love the sound the best, but reviews scare me saying it's too loud. i'd rather be on the more tame side, i don't want to be TOO loud. i don't want to be the asshole in my neighborhood. loudness aside - the deeper the sound, the better. drone is a concern only because i have the Ford SYNC in my car, and while i can always turn music up louder, i already have to yell at the SYNC to get it to hear me, no less having an inside drone added.

what do you guys have on your stangs? what would you recommend based on what i'm looking for? i have a 2011 V6. i've gotten excellent advice from JollyRogerStang, but i can't quite decide because the loudness scares me - my fear is having it installed (guess who! hehe) and then thinking it's too obnoxiously loud. i'm sure these sound clips and vids don't do any of these exhausts justice, so i know not to expect the same exact thing.

thanks so much in advance for your advice. and thanks (again and again) to Brian.

me personally, i thought i wouldn't want too loud but within the year i ended up getting louder mufflers and hi flow cats with an x pipe lol. you can always modify your driving style to try and keep it around neighbors/cops. the best ones I've heard on a v6 were ford racing, but I'm not sure if they make them for the 2011 v6 yet though.

***EDIT***

NEVERMIND...

I've got the Flowmaster Hushpower exhaust. Outside the car they sound great. Very deep and not too loud but you can definitely hear them when you get going. I've received compliments from all my neighbors. The older folks really seem to like them. Inside the cars is a different story. They're very inconsistent. If you are coasting or on level ground they are very quiet or have a nice little hum. At low speed going up just about any incline they can get very loud inside the car. Initially, the drone was almost unbearable. It's settled down some since the installation but sometimes it's just incredibly annoying. I always try to drive with the windows down because the sound is so much better. I would probably love these if I had a manual transmission and could easily keep the motor in the RPM range that they sound best in but with the automatic, they are at best, tolerable...

This is a v6 guys. Don't even bother recommending a system if you have a GT. Completely different sound. The op should be hearing form other v6 owners..

after screwing around trying to figure out the right setup for alexs 3.7 we found that muffler deletes are the way to go. i reccomend you just pull your mufflers off and see how you like it. its very simple and can be done in a half an hour.

That's good advice. I'm not sure how it will sound on your car, but I'm running my Ranger with no exhaust right now (not by choice - offroading incident) and it's nearly as loud as my Flowmasters on the Mustang... it sounds great.

yeah just pull the cans and see how u like it. it will drone though and cold starts might be a bit loud. after the cats warm up and the idle kicks down it will sound good and may cost you less than you thought to do. deletes are cheap compared to mufflers.

clips never sound like the real thing...

thanks so much, guys. are deletes even legal? and it seems like doing that would give me the loudest sound? (which i'm trying to stay away from)

and yes, my 2011 is a 3.7 V6, not a GT... let's not go there, i hate thinking buyer's remorse around my girl! :P

Okay Rebecca your best recommendation is going to come from me for I have experimented with some exhausts for our year and engine. I bought the Roush axel back and couldn't b anymore embarrassed of sounding like a Honda so that's an out. Next option if you want to keep the proper back pressure and not be to loud is the Borla attack, which sounds a little more deep.

For me, I went with custom deletes and absolutely love them. Closest to a V8 sound as I can get. It's loud but not over done. My customs seem to be just fine as far as the legal terms go also. Another option you can who with are the new "Pypes" that just came out for our cars, I'm sure that will sound similarly to mine if not better.

Let me know how it goes and good luck. I don't want you to have the same mistake I did and experiment!!

see, i thought the Borla ATAK wasn't deep enough and way too loud, i liked their Touring better. thanks re: Roush, sad but good to hear and that made up my mind on them. now my plan of attack is to sweet talk you into a ride next week so I can see/hear what deletes are like!
