Thumbs down umi upper control arms not good

ok so i finaly installed my upper control arm from umi that i got at carlisle and ever since then ive had a clunking noise comming from the rear under acceleration and also going over some bumps, i called up to find out what was going on and turns out they f'd up there messurements on the upper control arm compaired to stock and the 1 bushing is actualy thinner in width then factory, the clunking noise i hear is the control arm banging side to side, also make shure any suspension parts with grease fittings that are installed to remember to grease the fittings, the guy from umi told me that it was normal and that i wont break anything even at the track on a hard launch but i doubt that very much something that isnt supposed to move is now moving and making a loud clunk noise cant be normal, there fix for it is to buy yet another part from them witch is ure choise of either a new mounting bracket witch will get rid of it or shims to use, now idk about u but they messed up and i have to pay extra is that the right thing to do?

other then that though it is doing what it should i have apsolutely no wheel hop and it defenetly hooks alot better

I think they should give you either the new mount or the shims at their expense.

Get a J&M one or something and send this one back....personally something like that should be dead on in terms of sizing, from what I hear they are pretty good company and you'd think they'd fixed that by now, especially when they have competition.

ya the only problem is idk if i still have the receipt i hope i still have it in the box and as far as them giving me the shims i doubt it from the way the guy was talking to me about it

turns out the new bracket is 100 bucks and the spacer kit is 8 bucks hmmm cant emagine what people choise to buy, but they say the play is actually the fact that the bolt holes in the factory bracket are 16mm and the bolt from the factory is only 14mm but then if thats the case then y doesnt it clunk with the factory control arm in????

I wish I knew more about this stuff......but I probably wouldn't keep it on my car even if they say it won't do damage, it just can't be good for it to dance around like that or clunk as you say.... I mean how long have they had this out and why doesn't J&M or other companies have these issues with the uppers?

Is there any play after you put in the new control arm, what if you got a 16mm bolt instead of using the 14mm.

Well hope everything goes well for you. I've got a shiny J&M double adj UCA sitting in my bedroom right now. Goodbye wheel hop!

ah yeah shawn i know exactly what you are talking about because the steeda and j&m units come with inserts that surround the bushing and prevent the clunk. actually all of the companies that make these fucked up the measurements... they all come with inserts now... the only way u fix it is to get a unit that has these inserts. steeda sells inserts separate so u might be able to purchase theirs and use them if u cant get the umi ones... i would try to get a free set from umi even if u have to pay shipping... they are correct about the 14mm bolt 16mm hole though.. good luck. sorry for the issues... and umi makes good stuff. they have been around the gm car guys for years... they are realatively new to the mustangs though...
