Default Rattling stick/transmission - first post

Hi, I'm Jonathan; a new member and my first post. I have an 07 Shelby GT with the stock Hurst/Ford Racing 5 speed that is rattling badly. It started at about 8500 miles and now at 14K it sounds like quarters in a tin can. It happens when I hit the pedal medium to hard. If I hold the stick, it calms down a bit. I spoke to Hurst and Ford Racing; yesterday I went under and through the top of the car and couldn't find anything loose. Everyone is pointing at my transmission. Of all the stick cars I have driven, I have never had this before.
Any ideas that will keep me out of the repair shop?

Welcome man post some pics when you get the chance.

Yeah been there. Had the same issue with my roush shifter on my 07. From what ive seen it could be one of two things. Either its rattling internally because of the bushing play due to the shifter being mounted to the body and the trans at the same time. Or ive heard some guys solve it with adding extra padding in the shifter hole

Hi Dan, I was thinking the bushings also, but the back feels good and I couldn't get anything to move at all. I could not see any of the parts, nor could I feel the front bushings - wasn't able to get that far under the car. I'm guessing I will have to get on a lift for a better look and use a prybar (carefully.) Both Ford and Hurst had not heard of my problem and suggested taking to the dealer.
Thanks for the help. Jonathan.

James is right. you will have issues with just about any shifter besides the mgw. I had a few then finally got the mgw and it was game over shouldnt have had anything else from the start. If your not already i reccomend getting yourself on S197forums.com tons of knowledge and a great classifieds section. If you post up your issue someone will have had it.
