Has anyone hears about the suspicious fire at Franklin Sussex Automall? Apparently a fire broke out at there storage lot and burnt up 33 brand new cars.

WANTAGE — A total of 33 cars at a storage lot for the Franklin Sussex Auto Mall were fire-damaged early Monday morning in a series of blazes, authorities said.

Officers from the State Police, county Sheriff’s Office and Prosecutor’s Office and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were investigating the fires Monday afternoon at the lot located at 1440 County Route 565. Stephen Jones, a spokeman for the state police, said the fires have been “deemed suspicious” pending further investigation. The Sheriff’s Office has set up a command center for the investigation outside the auto mall storage lot. Sheriff Mike Strada said he expects the investigation to be “relatively drawn-out.”

Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:23 a.m. Monday, Jones said. Many of the vehicles spread across two rows in the lot were completely charred inside and out, with their seats incinerated and tires melted into the pavement. Other cars sustained mild to moderate exterior damage.

Burnt rubber and other debris were scattered throughout the lot after the fires, and ashes floated down the hill to rest on the grass near the Route 565 roadway.

Authorities had not offered any potential suspects as of Monday
