Default sidepipe exhuast

okay everyone i know this should go into the tech section of the forum but i kinda of want to know everyones opinion. i have a 1998 mustang gt with an stock headers, unknown brand xpipe and a magnaflow cat back(dual pipes), except i dont have cats. unfortunatly when i was driving yesterday i hitr railroad tracks in new brunswick and one side of my muffler fell off. Now when i bought the car i wanted to replace the exhaust anyway but didnt have the money and i was expecting something to break due to the horrible job the previous owner had or did to the exhaust on the car. Now the exhaust got rewelded and is stable for now but i was thinking of doing sidepipes before the rear tire. i was thinking of going with bbk longtube or short tube headers with a bbk catted xpipe (gain back my back pressure) and go out the sides with a borla or bassani exhaust. What do you think? Opinions? Suggestions?

Well the issue is you'll need a custom job no matter what brand you go with. So buying a cat back system will be a sever waste of money. Try and get something with just the mufflers only so you can weld them in where needed. The x pipe shouldn't be a problem there's a decent amount of room. Just keep in mind these cars aren't meant for it and there are no grooves for the pipes to follow to the side of the car. You'll most likely be going closely under brake lines/etc and covering your rear lift points.

Yeah I've seen prebuilt systems through body kits. They usually don't sound right though.

depending on exhaust system you are putting its loud and annoying (if your into that) i had side pipe on my truck and didnt like it. i had header long tube Xpipe and flow master.... all 2.5 inch piping. dumped right infront of rear wheels... thing is its LOUD! when idling for too long exhaust fumes come into your window (in summer) and its illegal if its anywhere vertically crossing any window. so i has to be almost touching the front of the rear wheels... if your doing BEHIND rear wheels then fine. i would go for it. but other then that. think twice. i know i regret it after the fact.

the power you gain, or lose with o/r versus catted is so small its not even worth worrying about.

stay o/r, and get a custom side exhaust with a small straight through style muffler, and be winning.
