How to Start a Thread on NJStangers Mustang Forum - Creating a Post
I have created a tutorial to show new Mustang Forum members how to start a thread on NJStangers or as simple as create a post on our Mustang Forum.
First Step: Find the section of the of the forum you'd like to post in. Keep in mine that the forum has multiple tabs
For this example, I'll walk you through posting in the New Members Section.
Second Step: Find the "New Thread" button to begin creating your thread or post on our forum.
Third Step: Please follow our posting rules to make your post more visible and understandable to others.
-- Checkout the various widgets available to you, from changing text color/style/size, adding attachments, linking to sites, adding images, quoting text, etc.
Fourth Step: Make sure to add related tags/keywords with a "," comma after each one. This will make easier for others to find your topic on the forum and be able to help you or discover a solution to a similar problem they have had.
Fifth Step: Click the Submit, or you can manage your attachment preferences below as well as other important fields.
- You can also start a poll here, options for the polls will be required in the next screen after you click submit.
Thanks for mentioning that this forum uses tabs rather than a lengthy list of all forum sections on a single page.
I suspect that the email notice for this topic went out to a number of relatively new and not very active members. While I can't speak for anybody but myself, I do have a few thoughts on the matter.
Forum access at the office - when the site is blocked by corporate internet monitoring software, that cuts out all of the activity that might otherwise happen before work starts or during lunch, plus any heads-up for topics to look at in more depth later at home. Unfortunately, this isn't something the forum can do much about, but activity levels suffer anyway. This isn't the only forum I belong to that I can't get to during the day, and I'm not as busy in those any more either.
The mix of activity by an individual - historically I start about one thread for every 300 replies that I post to existing discussions.
The topics of interest - People tend to gravitate toward the discussions that interest them most or which they feel qualified to answer. Knowing where to look for such topics is key. Perhaps the flip side is actively avoiding certain discussions. Just as a f'rinstance, I'll guarantee that anybody looking to tint/smoke/whatever any of his car's exterior lighting would rather NOT hear from me.
Getting a "feel" for the forum - the way I would word a reply depends on how I 'read' the forum and its membership. Some fora are more permissive than others. I look at this part like I would if I was joining a real club as opposed to this virtual one. Takes a little time.
Many people have Tapatalk to get around that office ban, it's more common now but there's also ways around it from what I've read on forums. We are actually thoroughly active here all day, more-so at night after everyone gets home but still good. This forum is going a rapid pace and I'm hoping this post will help the newbies navigate their way around.
I think we definitely have both aspects taken care of: We are a Mustang Club, we just don't charge dues or are not part of the MCA. We are also an online Mustang Forum.
Also the forum tabs is a neat feature, that I custom-installed. I wish many other forums would implement, it's much more time efficient.
I just got two notices of reply to topic (8:01 and 8:02). Any idea how that might have happened?
I guess the tap a whatzit thing would get you past the corporate electronic snoops, but I think they're catching on to the ways of redirecting access around them.
Not to be negative, just knowing myself here . . . I'd get so frustrated trying to type anything sensible with a tiny-"buttoned" touch screen that I'd be lucky if the damn thing would still work at all after about 10 minutes. Really lucky if it didn't log a free air mile after 20. On a bad day, the BP rises a few points just trying to make the touch-screened copy/scan machines do what I want them to do.
