Default 1989 Ford Bronco II: Switching into 4wd Issue

I know it's not mustang related but I have a weird issue with my bronco II. When I push the button to get it into 4wd nothing seems to happen. All I hear is a clicking noise coming from an electronics box on the drivers side behind the drivers seat. The bronco forums, are lacking... so I figured I'd try here. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Motor on the transfer case that switches the transfer case gears is probably wasted.

Yeah I was thinking it was something to do with the transfer case. 4wd is new to me so I'm not to familiar with how it engages. But it also has the locking hubs so I thought it might have been an issue with those.

You don't think it could be something like a fuse or anything?

Have somebody look at the truck when you have it in 4wd, move forward for a few feet and ask them to check if the front drive shaft is turning. If it is, the transfer case is working, and chances are that one of the hubs is blown. If it is not turning, then it could be the motor or solenoid for the transfer case. It sounds like the switch and the relay are working fine if you are hearing something clicking in your dash when you hit the button.

Well it won't be moving for a while yet lol. I have the motor apart right now, and I have to put a new clutch in it too. I don't need it until the winter so for now the stang is the priority.

Well then, you can get it up on blocks, put it in 4wd, then turn the rear wheels by hand. The front driveshaft should turn as well if the transfer case is working.

:O good idea! That also gives me an excuse to clean out a side of the garage haha. OH! By the way I passed your house on the way home from manahawkin on monday. Saw you washing your car I think. I honked but you seemed to be in the zone lol. I would have stopped by but I had eaten ice cream and I'm lactose intolerant and....well you get the idea. Lol

Indeed, I was in the zone, and vaguely heard somebody honk. I seriously thought to myself, that's probably Matt! I knew the day that I washed my car shirtless, somebody I know would see me... sure enough.

Good choice on the ice cream, haha.

LOL hey well ya gotta get a tan somehow. I'm nearly 50% british and 50% hungarian so i'm the whitest SOB if i don't get any sun hahaha.

If you ever need any car cleaning stuff let me know. I use the turtlewax ice wash and armorall products. I also usually have a can of that invisible glass stuff. Works wonders on streaks. I wouldn't recommend washing the car in the sun though. Black paint + sun + soap = spots. Unless you dry it off completely right away.

The silver is great for maintenance but I still need to wax it one of these days.

This has gotten a bit off track from the Bronco. lol

I've got a bit of car cleaning stuff myself, I usually stick to Mothers products - though I think I'm going to start looking into the more professional products.

Washing a black car on a day like yesterday barely even makes a difference when you wash the car in the shade. I've got a whole drying process to keep the water spots down to as much of a minimum as possible.
