yes that would change the motor completley. but that opens a new can of worms. does the generic 4.6 stuff fit the 5.4? doubt it. If it does, is that the best option? Are other heads/intake/cam combos better?

The short answer is I think that discussion will end in a $10,000 350hp motor?

as far as 4.6 stuff fitting on the 5.4 i know it will depend if its a romeo casting or windsor casting but thats really where my knowledge ends. ive only been reading up on this since last night.

can you explain how you come to $10g for 350 hp? i mean i know i said keep it naturally aspirated but i just dont see where the $10000 would come in

well assuming you go the full aftermarket route rather than just PI stuff - heads $1200, cams, 500, intake, 400, gaskets 200, engine bearings $50, fuel pump, oil pan and pickup as stated above, custom harness, exhaust, tune, valvetrain, valve covers, pcv system, air intake on and on it would go. And for what? To maybe match the power of a 3v 4.6 that would be a bolt on in your car and weigh 400 pounds less. And thats all assuming you succeed on building and installing it yourself and nothing breaks. Which is a hurdle im going to have to face shortly as well....and will consider it a miracle if i pull it off.

Like I hate being the one that keeps opposing the idea but I dont want you to wind up being unhappy with what ya got into. I really dont get off on being a negative nancy I swear!

haha ok now i see what you are saying kevin. i jsut wasnt getting the big picture. youre at least lucky cuz youre going the shortblock route and have almost everything else already you want to put on it

maybe ill just start looking into the s/c route. the thing is im not looking to make a huge hp number or anything i mainly just want to learn but at the same time i do want to do it right. plus its not like this project will be done any time soon. afterall i do fall into the social class of poor college kids

Brian,

*All the heads and cams will interchange between the Romeo/windsor 5.4/4.6.

The problem is even if you basically upgrade the heads to aftermarket, it still wont now flow enough at high RPM.
You might as well get Navigator heads(4v and cheaper) and then it'll wake up alot.

My suggestion stays lol, just put a Vortech on it and have fun with the torque, or do what Kevin said and throw the motor into a cheap truck and make some cake.

OR dothe 4v head swap, that will be expensiveish but fun!

The truck engine. You couldnt stroke the 4.6 to 5.4, not enought deck height...

ok. sounds good. austin might be going to the junk yard tomorrow so i asked him to look for some PI heads and cams for me. i still want to keep it 2v. i dont want to get crazy with the build since i dont have enough experience to do anything like that yet

my ultimate point is that if you wanna make your mustang better, you can get a running 3valve 4.6 for like $1500. And its bolt on. I mean to me its a no brainer

All you need to know about a Ford engine: If you can't fix it with a hammer, its an electrical problem.
