Throwout bearing, pilot bearing, the kit comes with a bearing retainer as well. Is there a good chance I don't need the retainer? Could leave that out if not necessary

shakey, all the T5 trannys in the foxes came with aluminum retainers that the throwout bearing rides on, over time the aluminum can get rough and not allow a smooth clutch action, so people install steel retainers, so if your is OE and the kit comes with a steel one thats the way to go and I can install it for you, probably another hour to shim/install it on the trans, if the replacement is aluminum dont get it and I have steel ones in stock I can install if you want. If your OE aluminum one is in good shape then there is no need to change it out.

TommyF2011, I have no clue how many hours that job would be, probably alot, but my labor with the njstanger discount is $40hr till the end of the year.

AL.

Is a bearing whine. Coming from the rear. Doesn't go away when in neutral. Gets louder on acceleration, no change when you go left to right (shitting the weight type left yup right. I think its the pinion bearing. Ford techs said the nise is deffinitely a bad bearing but its not to the point of warranty repair. Your more then welcome to test drive it. I'm still going to build the rear though. I'm planning on going a little extreme with it in the next year or two. And its getting caged and sub frame connectors welded in over the winter hopefully.

well if its a bearing I'd replace them all. typically a bearing sound is a low rumble and doesnt change from accel to decel only with speed, will a miss alignment in the ring and pinion teeth cause a high pitch whine which usually changes pitch going from accel to decel, this misalignment can be caused by several things. if you need the cage or subs welded in we can do that as well.
